the first track i wrote, and the first on the album. when i was writing this track it was kind of an experiment--i wasn't sure then if i would actually be making this album. it was just a little idea.

"lay low" is addressing Layla, but to be honest, i don't have a specific character in mind as the singer! i think a little about Lucas and Mabs when singing this, but i don't really know enough about them yet to clamber into their heads like that. Layla isn't my favorite character per se, but for some reason she totally captivates me. she's kind of sinister-seeming so far, and i can't set that aside, but she's also super mysterious!! what's her deal! she's friends with alligators. possible cruelties aside, that's like... the coolest thing in the world... i wanna talk to anoles... share your secrets, Layla...
